K-State students participate in ninth annual Economics Scholars Program

Submitted by Dan Kuester

On Friday, March 27, six Kansas State students participated in the Economics Scholars Program, which is sponsored and hosted by the Dallas Federal Reserve. The students were economics majors who applied to participate and were active participants in the conference.

Students from 36 colleges from 16 different states participated in the conference. K-State students also participated on the editorial board for this conference as it is entirely run by undergraduate students under the supervision of Austin College and the Dallas Federal Reserve.

Colin Halpin presented his paper "The Student Price Index and Growing Cost of Higher Education," while other K-State students served as discussants for other papers. Other students participating in the conference were Colby Bostick, Roxanne Bunnell, Matt Lambert, Fred Lindsey and Shawna Smith. The students heard from and met with Dallas Fed officers and recruiters in addition to attending presentations on a wide variety of economic subjects.

"All of our students did a very nice job at this conference," said Dan Kuester who accompanied the students to the event. "There was a huge crowd for Colin's presentation and he did a great job. He answered several thoughtful questions from his discussant and from the audience. Our students took their responsibilities as discussants and participants in the conference very seriously and were well prepared to discuss a wide range of economic issues."
