Submitted by Richard Potter

The Office of the Vice President for Research, the Kansas State University Foundation and the Kansas State University Institute for Commercialization are collaborating to present a series of training sessions that will provide faculty and staff with tools to establish mutually beneficial industry collaborations and develop sustained corporate partnerships.

Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the opening session of the Working With Industry Boot Camp, 1:30-4 p.m. Jan. 21, 2015. Additional information will be provided closer to the event.

Presenters will include K-State faculty with proven success records in corporate engagement, as well as outside experts from industry and other institutions.

Learning objectives for the Working With Industry Boot Camp series include:

  • How to initiate interactions with corporations and maximize the effectiveness of corporate partnerships.
  • How to communicate and negotiate with corporate partners, as well as who to contact for assistance along the way.
  • How to set and manage appropriate expectations that lead to sustained, mutually beneficial corporate partnerships.
  • How to ensure contractual obligations are met in a timely and commercially relevant manner, including an overview of disclosure agreements, intellectual property protection, commercialization, and examples of how these processes can benefit faculty both personally and professionally.
