Civil engineering doctoral candidate receives student of the year honor

By Mary Rankin

Nassim Sabhafar, doctoral student in civil engineering, has been named the 2014 Mid-America Transportation Center Student of the Year and will be honored at the Council of University Transportation Center Awards Banquet in January 2015 in Washington, D.C. The award includes a $1,000 scholarship. Sabhafar's major professor is Mustaque Hossain, Munger professor of civil engineering.

The Mid-America Transportation Center was designated as the Region VII U.S. Department of Transportation Center in 2006. Region VII, of which Kansas State University is a member, is a consortium of eight universities in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska, with the University of Nebraska, Lincoln serving as the lead institution.

The Council of University Transportation Centers was established in 1979 by the major transportation research centers and institutes in the U.S. to provide a forum for the universities and centers to interact collectively with government and industry.
