Kristin Oberheide appointed director of international admissions and recruiting

By Mary K. Pyle

Kristin Oberheide was recently appointed the new director of international admissions and recruiting for Kansas State University's international programs office. Oberheide started her new position on Tuesday, Aug. 12.

She served as the director of international programs at the University of Texas, El Paso, where she supervised international student and scholar service operations, directed 20 staff employees, managed international student admissions and recruitment documentation processing for graduate and undergraduate levels, and directed oversight of the department budget and compliance administration duties.

"Kristin will make a strong and measurable impact on the comprehensive internationalization here at K-State," said Marcelo Sabates, associate provost international programs office. "I am impressed with her passion, her analytical skills, and her vision for internationalization at a major public institution."

Oberheide received her Master of Public Administration from Cornell University with a concentration in government, politics and policy. While there, she served as the Cornell chair for the Public Affairs Colloquium, overseeing a committee of student volunteers hosting internationally known policy experts and world leaders. Oberheide also served as a teaching assistant for a graduate course in organizational leadership. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational administration and leadership. Oberheide graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Arts in German and psychology.

"After a 12-year successful tenure by former international admissions and recruiting director Jim Lewis, Kristin comes to us with demonstrated collaboration and leadership qualities and an excellent sense of current best practices in the field to keep us as a highly effective institution in this increasingly complex and competitive field," Sabates said.

"When I visited K-State campus, I already felt included in this community. I am excited to join this great team as we move forward toward a more internationalized campus and K-State 2025," Oberheide said.
