Mathematics Colloquium lecture Feb. 25

Submitted by Reta McDermott

Bacim Alali, Florida State University, will present "Nonlocal Continuum Mechanics" as part of the mathematics department Colloquium lecture series at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in 122 Cardwell Hall.

The abstract for the lecture is:
Peridynamics is a nonlocal continuum mechanics theory that is based on integral equations and oriented toward modeling of fracture in solids. In this talk, I will present results on the convergence of peridynamics inside heterogeneous media in the limit of vanishing nonlocality. A new peridynamic material interface model that includes nonlocal interface conditions is introduced and its convergence to the classical interface model of linear elasticity is discussed. In addition, I will present results on the homogenization of peridynamics inside composites with microstructure.
