Kastner named University Honors Program director

Submitted by Steven Dandaneau

As the result of a national search, Justin J. Kastner has been named the director of the University Honors Program, effective Jan. 5, 2014. He is an associate professor of diagnostic medicine and pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine and co-director for the interdisciplinary and interinstitutional Frontier program.

Kastner is a K-State alumnus, former Truman, Fulbright and Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship recipient, and distinguished author and educational leader who generously served this fall semester as the interim director of the University Honors Program.

Kastner and Jim Hohenbary, part-time associate director, form an impressive leadership team for the University Honors Program’s continued growth and development, according to Steve Dandaneau, K-State vice provost for undergraduate studies. The University Honors Program offices will be soon relocated to 215 Fairchild Hall.

Thanks are due to all the members of the search committee, including chair Mary Tolar of the School of Leadership Studies, for the fairness and thoroughness of the search process. The search also benefited from the valuable input of many faculty, staff and students who attended and helped evaluate candidate presentations and who engaged candidates in small group meetings. We are especially grateful to University Honors Program students for their service on the search committee.
