SIGNING UP for Recruitment

Fraternities

K-State has 24 chapters that make up the Interfraternity Council. Fraternities recruit year-round, but we encourage you to begin the recruitment process during the beginning of spring if you are interested in joining in the fall.

How to register for fraternity recruitment

1. Register for fraternity recruitment online.

The process is complete in minutes, and your contact information will be stored in a secure database. Each fraternity's recruitment chairmen will be able to access your information and contact you.

Register now

2. Contact the chapters that interest you.

The recruitment process works best when you take initiative. Contact the recruitment chairmen of the chapters that you might be interested in directly.

3. Join a fraternity.

The recruitment process is complete when you have signed a bid card. Most chapters will offer you a bid (an invitation to join their fraternity), but don’t be afraid to ask the recruitment chairmen directly if you may join.  You may accept a chapter's bid online or by signing a bid card.  You will need your username and password to accept a chapter's bid online, and you can get username and password information by contacting the Greek Affairs office.

Sororities

K-State has 11 chapters that are a part of the Panhellenic Council. All of these sororities take part in fall formal membership recruitment. Occasionally, some of these chapters may take part in spring recruitment or continuous open bidding, as it is called.

How to register for fall formal membership recruitment

1. Fill out and submit the registration form.

You may register for fall formal membership recruitment by submitting the registration form. You will be asked to enter your high school or college grade point average, your SAT or ACT scores, and your high school or college extracurricular activities. It will be helpful to have this information ready before opening the registration form.

2. Pay the registration fee.

The majority of the registration fee covers housing and meals for women participating in fall formal membership recruitment. Fees also help offset the administrative costs of managing the recruitment process. The fee is $165 and must be paid online using a credit card, debit card, or check. After you submit the registration form, you will be asked to pay the registration fee to complete the registration process.

Note: Registration closes on August 1, 2008. No applications will be accepted after this date!

3. View the confirmation packet

Once you have completed all three steps in the recruitment process, you will receive an e-mail stating that you have successfully registered for fall formal membership recruitment. The e-mail will also advise you to view the confirmation packet for information about the recruitment week.

How to register for continuous open bidding (COB)

After fall formal membership recruitment some chapters may still have openings. Likewise, some chapters may have openings during the spring semester due to members who have graduated or left campus.  Please note, open spaces are rare and few. Chapters with openings may choose to continue to recruit through an informal process known as continuous open recruitment. Here’s how to register:

1. Fill out and submit the free registration form.

To express your interest in participating in continuous open recruitment, please fill out and submit the COB registration form. The information that you provide on the registration from will be forwarded to the chapters participating in COB. The recruitment chairpersons of those chapters will contact you. There isn’t a registration fee to take part in COB.

Register now (the registration form will not be available until August 25, 2008)

Note: Women who have gone through fall formal recruitment and who were offered a bid are ineligible to participate in COB. They may not take part in any Panhellenic Council recruitment processes until one year after they were initially offered a bid. They may, however, take part in the intake process used by K-State’s multicultural fraternities and sororities.

Multicultural fraternities and sororities

K-State is home to 10 multicultural fraternities and sororities. These chapters recruit through a process known as intake. Although these organizations consist primarily of multicultural students, they are open to all K-State students.

Traditionally African American organizations

Sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Beta Sigma Chi, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta

Fraternities: Alpha Phi Alpha, Omega Psi Phi, and Phi Beta Sigma

Traditionally Latina/o organizations

Sorority: Sigma Lambda Gamma

How intake works

The intake process involves submitting an application directly to the fraternity of sorority of interest. The chapter will hold a series of interviews with prospective members to determine who will receive an invitation to join. Please check the website of each fraternity or sorority for recruitment dates, details, and contact information.
