Greek Week 2009

Greek Olympics

Teams and Cheerleaders

There will be eight (8) events spread out over old stadium. There will be four (4) fraternities or sororities at each event. The teams will be randomly rotated between the events so the competition is mostly different at each event. The teams at each event will be scored accordingly: 1st 4pts, 2nd 3pts, 3rd 2pts, and 4th 1pt. The team with the most total points at the end will win Greek Olympics. In the event of a Tie for 1st, 2nd or 3rd place the tie breaker will be a jello eating contest (one 9oz cup) between one person on each team.

Team Composition

Each team will have a Capitan (who will not participate but will act as team coach and coordinator) and up to 10 Olympians (who will be the ones participating in the events). Not every event will require all the participants from each team so it will be the Capitan’s job to decide who takes part. Every participant will be required to sign a waiver form before they take part in the games.

Non-Participants

Those who will not be taking part in the Olympic Games but are going to be watching will not be allowed on the field. They will be required to have a Greek Week wrist band or pay $2 entry at the gate. They must remain in the stands the whole time so they do not interfere with the Games

Games (updated April 2)

Tug-of-War

5 Olympians per team. Winner determined by most wins in a round robin style tournament between the teams at the station. In the event of a tie of wins between teams, the team that won when both teams played each other wins the tie.

Time limit of 30 seconds put on each match. Match is ended when one team pulls the front person from the other team over the center line or time limit (30 seconds) is called. If there is no one pulled over the center line before time limit is reached, the judge at the station will determine the winner by who is farthest away from the centerline when time is called.
Set Up: Teams will be lined up two yard away on each side of the center line. In order for the match to start the front person for each team must have one foot on the starting line.

Chariot Race

4 Carriers and 1 Riders per Team. Winner is determined by who crosses the finish line first.

Each relay team consists of 4 carriers and one rider. The carriers will take their rider across the width of the old stadium field to their other team mate on that side. The rider will then switch from person to person and be carried back. This process will be completed round trip twice.

Shot Put

4 participants per team. Winning team is determined by who has the highest average distance between the 4 players.

Each Olympian on the team will get 3 chances to throw water balloons. The farthest throw from each participant will count towards the teams average. If the participant crosses the boundary line while throwing the throw will count as a scratch or 0 feet. The distance of the throw will be measured from the boundary line directly to where the balloon landed. The average will be calculated by adding up the 4 farthest distances from each Olympian and dividing that number by 4.

Set Up: A boundary line will be marked in the ground by tape. The judge at the station is in charge of watching to see if the boundary line is crossed and making the official measurement for each throw.

Javelin throw

4 participants per team. Winning team is determined by who has the highest average distance between the 4 players.

Each Olympian on the team will get 3 chances to throw a pool noodle. The farthest throw from each participant will count towards the teams average. If the participant crosses the boundary line while throwing the throw will count as a scratch or 0 feet. The distance of the throw will be measured from the boundary line directly to where the farthest point of the noodle landed. The average will be calculated by adding up the 4 farthest distances from each Olympian and dividing that number by 4.

Set Up: A boundary line will be marked in the ground by tape. The judge at the station is in charge of watching to see if the boundary line is crossed and making the official measurement for each throw.

Jello Eating Contest

5 Participants from each team. Winner is determined by which team finishes their cups of jello first.  The Participants will line up each with a 9oz cup of jello in their hand. The first person in the line will start eating. When they are finished they will show a judge and he will ok the next person to start. This will happen all the way down the lines until the last person is finished.

Obstacle Course

4 participants from each team. Winning team is determined by the fastest time through the course.

This will be a two part relay event with the team going through the four obstacles twice. The obstacles are: Tire Run, Army Crawl, Ziz-Zag, and Balance Beam. If a person falls off the balance beam they must go to the beginning of it and start again. When the last person from the team crosses the finish line the team’s time is recorded.

Set Up: Starting line marked with tape, row of staggered tires, low area to crawl through, pillars to zig-zag through, and a balance beam at the end, then finish line.

Scooter 4x100m relay

4 participants from each team. Winner is determined by the first team to cross the finish line and by the time recorded by the judge at each start/finish point.

The riders will be placed at 100m intervals on the track. At each interval there will be a member from each team. Every team will start out at a different interval so that they are spread out evenly. One of the judges in the middle will signal the start of the race by holding up then dropping a flag. The team will complete a full trip around the track. When their last person crosses the line the team started at the time will be recorded. This will be compared to the other teams who took part in the same heat to determine the winner.

Set Up: Blue tape markers will be set up at the North, South, East, and West points of the track. Scooters will be placed at each point. A team mate from each team (4 in all) will be at each marker. A judge with a stop watch will be at each interval to record time.
