Formal Membership Recruitment schedule

Move-In and Orientation - Sunday, August 15

What to Expect:

On Sunday you will have the ability to check in for Formal Membership Recruitment, move into your assigned residence hall, and participate in the opening convocation. Your parents or family members will also have the opportunity to attend a parent/family orientation session.

Opening Convocation will be held on campus Sunday evening. Panhellenic officers will review recruitment week activities and logistics and answer any questions. You will meet your Recruitment Guide, as well as the group of women who will be going through the recruitment process with you.

1:00-6:00 p.m.  Participant check-in and parent/family check in

1:00 p.m. Residence Halls open

3:00 p.m.  Sorority Recruitment Orientation for Parents and Families (Session 1)

5:00 p.m.  Sorority Recruitment Orientation for Parents and Families (Session 2)

6 p.m.  Participant dinner with recruitment group, or on own

7:45 p.m. Meet Recruitment Group

8 p.m. Formal Membership Recruitment Convocation

10:00 p.m.  Welcome Social

Round 1: Open House - Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17

What to Wear:

Dress comfortably in your favorite K-State T-shirt and jeans or a casual skirt.

What to Expect:

This will be your first opportunity to interact personally with the members of our Panhellenic sororities.  You will visit 11 of the sororities at K-State.  Your conversations will be one-one-one and focus on topics such as your high school involvement, summer activities, and what you want to get out of a sorority experience and K-State.

Event Length:

Events during Open House will be scheduled over two days and will last 20 minutes with 10 minutes allotted for travel between the chapter homes.  You will travel with your recruitment group.  Please follow the direction of our recruitment guide to ensure you arrive at all events on time.  You will have at least 3 breaks during this round.

Monday, August 16

7-8:30 a.m.  Breakfast

12:10-1:30 p.m. Lunch

1:30-5 p.m.  Round 1 events

5-6:30 p.m.  Dinner

6:30-9 p.m.  Round 1 events continue

Tuesday, August 17

7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m.  Breakfast

9:30 a.m. - Noon  Round 1 events continue

Noon-1:35 p.m. Lunch

2:00-5:00 p.m.  Round 1 events continue

5-6:30 p.m.  Dinner

4:00-7:30 p.m.  Participants submit preferences online

Round 2: House Tours - Wednesday, August 18

What to Wear:

A nice shirt and casual skit or Capri’s or a casual sundress is appropriate.  This round is slightly dressier than the first round.

What to Expect:

Today you will receive a schedule inviting you to up to nine events for the day, as a result of the mutual selection process.  You will receive information concerning each chapter’s member expectations as well as financial, housing, community service and scholastic obligations of each member.  During this round, you will receive a brief tour of the chapter home.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions!  Members will be prepared to answer any questions concerning living arrangements, time commitments, membership requirements, etc. 

Event Length:

Events will last 45 minutes with 15 minutes allotted for travel between the chapter homes.

7:45 a.m.-8:30 a.m.  Formal Membership Recruitment Convocation

8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  Round 2 events

Noon-1:30 p.m.  Lunch

2:00-4:45 p.m.  Round 2 events continue

5-6:30 p.m.  Dinner

7:00-9:45 p.m.  Round 2 events continue

6:00-10:00 p.m.  Participants submit preferences online

Round 3: Sisterhood and Philanthropy - Thursday, August 19

What to Wear:

Appropriate attire is a nice skirt or sundress.

What to Expect:

Today you will receive a schedule inviting you to up to five events for the day, as a result of the mutual selection process.  The focus of today will be philanthropy and sisterhood.  Chapters will give you a brief presentation on their service organizations and may ask you to participant in a short philanthropy project.  In addition, each sorority will emphasize the unique bonds of sisterhood within their chapter, including the organization’s core values, creed or motto. 

Event Length:

Events will last 45 minutes with 15 minutes allotted for travel between the chapter homes. 

7:00 a.m.-7:45 a.m.  Breakfast

7:45 a.m.-8:30 a.m.  Formal Membership Recruitment Convocation

8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  Round 3 events

Noon-1:30 p.m.  Lunch

2:00-4:45 p.m.  Round 3 events continue

5-6:30 p.m.  Dinner

1:00-6:30 p.m.  Participants submit preferences online

6:30 p.m.  All-participant activity

Round 4: Preference - Friday, August 20

What to Wear:

This is the most formal day recruitment.  Suggested attire includes a nice dress you would wear to a spring wedding or important ceremony.

What to Expect:

During this round you will visit up to three chapters.  You will talk more in-depth with members about their sorority experience and they their chapter in important to them.  You will take part in a special ceremony that is unique to each chapter.  Some women may be emotional during this round as they consider the bonds of sisterhood they have formed with women in their chapter.

Event Length:

Events will last one hour with 15 minutes allotted for travel between the chapter homes.

8:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.  Round 4 events

Noon-1:30 p.m.  Lunch

1:30-2:30 p.m.  Round 4 events continue

5-6:30 p.m.  Dinner

9:30-3:30 p.m.  Participants submit preferences online

8:00 p.m.  Formal Membership Recruitment Convocation

Following Convocation, participants will travel to their new chapter homes for the evening.

Saturday, August 21

What to Wear:

Be comfortable!  Casual clothes and flip-flops or tennis shoes are appropriate.

What to Expect:

Fun, friendship, and sisterhood.  Take a moment to absorb all of the excitement of your new sisters.  Chapters will serve breakfast and lunch and conclude all activities by 2 p.m.
