2019 Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences Small Grant Program for K-State Graduate Students

The Graduate School is pleased to announce the fifth year of the Small Grant Program to support research expenses for master's and doctoral students in their final year. Grants will be up to $1,000 for research costs with funds available after January 15, 2019. 

Small Grant Program Funding Guidelines and Requirements:

  1. FUNDING FOR FINAL YEAR OF PROGRAM ONLY. Student must be currently enrolled as a graduate student at Kansas State University and on schedule to graduate in Spring 2019, Summer 2019, or Fall 2019 with a masters or doctoral degree. Graduate certificate students are not eligible.
  2. Funding is to support direct cost for your research, scholarly or creative work as described in your project application and required to complete degree requirements, such as travel to use an archive, data collection, exhibition or performance expenses, materials and supplies, etc. can be requested. Funds cannot be used to support receptions, food, or hospitality nor indirect costs such as editing, transcriptions, sub-contracting or hiring students.
  3. Awards will not exceed $1,000 and requests should not be less than $500. In your budget, please provide a detailed explanation for the proposed research expenses for which you are requesting funds.
  4. Request to present research at conferences or professional meetings are not supported. Travel awards are offered by Graduate Student Council for this purpose.
  5. Funding cannot be used to pay tuition, fees or living expenses. It is for direct research costs and cannot be transferred to the cashier's office to pay K-State expenses.
  6. Funding can be used to purchase equipment and software but both equipment and software remain with Kansas State University when the student graduates unless the software requested is a monthly subscription. Software currently available on campus should not be requested due to limited amount of funds to allocate. Application should document that the software being requested is not available anyplace on campus.
  7. The total amount of grant funds awarded will be disbursed to the department where your program resides, with direct payments or reimbursements to the student to be handled by the home department accountant.
  8. *Only students in Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Master's or doctoral graduate degree programs are eligible to apply and project must be an art, humanities or social science focused project. Students from eligible programs not meeting the criteria will not be considered.
  9. Students can receive only one Small Research Grant while a graduate student at K-State.
