Graduate Faculty Nomination Procedures

Required Nomination Materials for Graduate Faculty:

The Graduate Faculty nomination requirements are defined in Chapter 5 of the Graduate Handbook.


PLEASE SUBMIT THE APPROPRIATE NOMINATION FORM, A LETTER OF NOMINATION, AND A ONE-PAGE VITA AS A SINGLE PDF TO
: gradinfo@ksu.edu.

  • Nomination Form for Membership and/or Certification (PDF) (Word)
    NOTE: Doctoral certification can be sought at the same time a faculty member is nominated for membership on the graduate faculty or at any subsequent time. HOWEVER, a faculty member may not be nominated for only certification if he or she has not already been nominated for membership.

  • Nomination Form for Non-Graduate Faculty to Teach Graduate Courses (PDF) (Word)
    For emergency or one-year approval for non-graduate faculty to teach graduate courses.
  • Letter of Nomination (from the Department Head)
    The letter should state the intended role(s) of the nominee as a member of the graduate faculty, the nominee's research or creative activities, and additional qualifications to serve as a member of the graduate faculty or to teach graduate level courses.
  • One-page vita (using the Word template or PDF form)
    For review by Graduate Council

Processing Timeline for Nominations Requiring Graduate Council Approval:

  • Nominations received by the Graduate School by the 10th of the month will be reviewed by the Academic Affairs Committee within that same month. Nominations received after the 10th of the month will be reviewed by the Academic Affairs Committee in the following month.

  • Nominations approved by the Academic Affairs Committee will be reviewed by the Graduate Council on the first Tuesday of the following month.

  • EXAMPLE: A nomination received by the Graduate School between September 11 and October 10 will be reviewed at the October Academic Affairs Committee meeting. If approved by the Academic Affairs Committee, the nomination will be reviewed by the Graduate Council on the first Tuesday in November. If the nomination is approved by the Graduate Council, an approval letter will be distributed via email within five business days of the Graduate Council meeting.

  • Exceptions:
    • Nominations received between November 11 and February 10 will be reviewed at the February Academic Affairs Committee meeting and then at the March Graduate Council meeting.

    • Nominations received between April 11 and September 10 will be reviewed at the September Academic Affairs Committee meeting and then at the October Graduate Council meeting.
