Drop/withdrawal policy and processes and 899/999 hours

Students who need to drop or withdraw from a course must do so by the deadlines stated in the academic calendar. Students who miss the posted deadlines due to extenuating circumstances may appeal for a backdated drop/withdrawal by following the process outlined on the Registrar’s website. This policy also applies to 899/999 hours.

    • Not completing a thesis or dissertation in the targeted semester of graduation is not an extenuating circumstance that warrants a back-dated drop or withdrawal of 899/999 research hours.
    • The purposes of the 899/999 courses is to provide graduate thesis and dissertation students the ability to stay connected with the university for the semester, utilize needed services (such as the library, parking services, etc.) as well as work on their thesis and dissertation while gaining the benefit of being reported to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS) as a full-time enrolled student regardless of how many credit hours registered. This benefit assists with keeping student loans in deferment and affords the student the right to be coded as a full-time student whether in 1 credit or 9 credits.
