Templates
Word
The Word templates contain required formatting (margins, page numbers, page breaks, etc.) as well as automatic generation of the table of contents, list of tables, and list of figures. It's not required that you use the template, but it will save you time and effort.
Styles
The template makes extensive use of Styles in Word. If you're not familiar with Styles, review these sources:
- Read the instructions on Styles for your Word version (Word 2003, Word 2007, Word for Mac 2004, Word for Mac 2008).
- Study the tutorial Using Word to Create Your Thesis, Dissertation, or Report. Somewhat dated, but still gives a good overview of the concept of Styles.
- Look in your Word Help under Styles.
Template Instructions
- Using Word. Covers specific features in the template for all current Word versions.
- Word 2003. Instructions are available for doctoral dissertations and masters theses/reports. Some information in these instructions has changed, so be sure to consult the Using Word page.
To Download the Word Template
- Click on the appropriate template: Doctoral dissertations or Masters theses/reports.
- Save the file to your computer.
- Open the file in Word.
The template file contains some sample text to illustrate various features of the template. You can add your content directly to the template file and delete the sample text when it's no longer needed.
LaTeX
The LaTeX template uses a separate file for each section of your ETDR and is designed to be compiled with PDFLaTex. The template will not compile with "regular" LaTeX. The template is configured with page margins and other formatting required by the Graduate School and will automatically generate a table of contents, a list of figures, and a list of tables. If you write your ETDR in LaTeX, you are not required to use this template.To Download the LaTeX Template
- Click to begin downloading the LaTeX template. The same template is used for doctoral and masters papers.
- The template consists of several files compressed into a single file. Create a new directory named "latex_source" and use an appropriate utility to decompress the file into this directory.
- Study the Instructions for Using the LaTeX ETDR Template. Additional guidelines are contained within template.
