This organization at Kansas State University suits its members to a "tee."

To go along with the university's golf course management program, K-State added a student chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America in 2000. The international organization is a professional association for golf course management and maintenance professionals and has more than 20,000 members.

The Kansas State University Student Chapter of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America is the first collegiate chapter in Kansas and one of 50 collegiate chapters in the United States and England, said John Wake, student programs manager for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Combined, the student chapters have more than 2,000 members.

"The goal of the student chapters is to help enhance curriculum and career opportunities for members. Interaction among chapters is encouraged through such activities as golf tournaments," Wake said. "We also can help members with the transition from student to a golf course professional."

"Our chapter is a way students can become familiar with the golf course industry and meet professionals in the business. We also have speakers who discuss issues related to the profession," said Todd Bohn, chapter president in 2000.
