The task at hand is to compose a piece of music based on the poetry of Rumi that can be performed with Set Me As A Seal by Richard Nance on the Chicago Cultural Center “Love Around the World” concert series. Some thing to consider when writing your piece are:
Who is Rumi? What is Sufism? What do Sufis believe? Who is Rumi’s poetry about? How does Rumi’s poetry relate to the Song of Solomon and more specifically Set Me As A Seal? What musical ideas can depict love? How can you, and other Americans, relate to the poetry of Rumi?
