.Start by researching about Rumi and the history of Sufism. it is important to know about the poet so that you can really understand the poetry.
.Read several poems by Rumi and select one that you can relate to base your composition on.
.Write a brief 1-2 page paper that summarizes what you learned about Rumi and Sufism, as well as why you chose the poem you chose and how you can relate to it.
.Compose either a choral or vocal solo piece using the text from one of the poems by Rumi. Create your composition on a music notating software such as Sibelius or Finale. If you plan to do a lot of your work at home, I would suggest using free music notation websites such as Noteflight or MuseScore.
.Print your score and prepare it to perform for the class. If it is a choral piece, make sure to find people to sing the other parts.
.Prior to performing the piece for the class, make sure to read the poem aloud and give a brief explanation for why you chose the poem you did.

“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”
