Navigating and integrating the new standards into your rehearsal can be challenging. This session will focus on unique and efficient strategies to integrate the new Kansas music standards into your day-to-day rehearsals with the intent of building independent musicians throughout your ensemble.

This interactive session explores best practices for assessing music students in the classroom while aligning with state and district standards. We will reflect on current practices and reveal how music teachers are often the best assessors; we just do not document as well as our other colleagues. Resources will be provided to take with you into the music classroom!

Jacques Dalcroze: Purposeful, Musical Movement in the Elementary Classroom
Dr. Ruth Gurgel

Participants will explore movement using the Dalcroze method and try out activities that animate beat, texture, melody and more. You will get to try your hand at leading movement from the piano or xylo, using easy improvisation techniques as well as how to incorporate pieces of music using movement.

Bella Voce: Setting Solo Singers up for Solo Contest Success

This session shares best practices in preparing for solo vocal contest. The following topics will be discussed: literature selection, preparation, and post-festival reflection. Attendees will receive resources detailing successful vocal literature, schedule for preparation, and much more.
