K-State students awarded nuclear engineering scholarships from the US Department of Energy

Thursday, May 9, 2024

MANHATTAN — Three students in the Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University have received undergraduate nuclear engineering scholarships from the U.S. Department of Energy for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Ashleigh Mauler, senior in the concurrent bachelor's and master's program from Wichita; Stephen Warne, senior from Richmond, Minnesota; and Landon Barner, freshman from Liberty, Missouri, were chosen by the Department of Energy's University Nuclear Leadership Program, or UNLP, to receive $10,000 awards for tuition costs and other school expenses.

The students were selected based on their alignment of career goals with the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy's mission, academic strength and references. K-State was one of only 12 universities to have at least three students win UNLP undergraduate scholarships for the upcoming academic year.

More information about these awards, which are part of more than $19 million awarded by the DOE this year to support students and faculty working in fields relevant to nuclear energy, can be found at energy.gov/ne/office-nuclear-energy.
