Changes in Tidal Zones of River Channels Over Time

Allen Archer, Ph.D.

Department of Geology

Dr. Archer has an ongoing project which uses satellite imagery to observe the migration and sedimentation patterns in the tidal zone of the mouth of the Amazon river. He also observes tidal sedimentation in several regions that boast some of the world's largest tidal ranges, including northenmost Quebes at Ungava Bay, the Cook inlet of Alaska, and the Patagonia region of Argentina. In 2006-07, Archer had a graduate student use satellite imagery to study the river and coastline morphology in Patagonia and to select potential sampling sites for field investigation.
