In cooperation with the Provost's office and as a response to the teaching needs of K-State, IT Technology Classrooms is providing a camera and microphone for all designated teaching spaces at K-State's three campuses for Fall 2020. These systems will be active and ready in classrooms for classroom capture or live streaming via Zoom and will be connected to the room computer or available to connect to the instructor's laptop (Windows or Mac) via 2 USB ports.
The camera is a Poly EagleEye Cube and the microphone is a Poly Calisto. These are designed to face the instructor or the student audience and feature a wide field of view, auto-tracking of the speaker, and filtering out additional noise to improve audio quality.
See this how-to video for instructors for information on how to use the system at K-State:
For additional information, also see the written instructions on How to use the Poly EagleEye Cube camera and Calisto Speakerphone for Zoom web conferencing (PDF).
Cleaning and disinfecting guidance
See K-State's cleaning and disinfecting page for guidance on efforts being undertaken at K-State.
To prevent community spread outbreaks of COVID-19, disinfecting must occur between all class changes. Because K-State will be using approximately 600+ teaching classrooms and labs on its Manhattan campus, it will be necessary to involve an expanded team of individuals to assist in the process. As such, instructors will be responsible for ensuring all instructor technology, desks, chairs, and high touch point areas are disinfected.
Instructor cleaning steps
For these cameras and mics, and all instructor technology, you will be asked to clean with the provided 70% isopropyl alcohol. Do this before you use the technology and avoid saturating electronics or spraying any liquids directly onto the equipment. Before using technology equipment, please:
- Spray only the 70% isopropyl alcohol on a paper towel
- Wipe surfaces of technology you will use (screen, keyboard, controls)
- Let evaporate/dry
- Throw paper towel away
All cleaning supplies are provided. If the sprayer is broken or not working or alcohol needs refilled, contact your local custodian.
Important! Do NOT spray electronics, technology, or whiteboards with disinfectant from a spray bottle or electrostatic sprayer!!!
Please use the bottle labeled 70% isopropyl alcohol provided in the classroom, spray on a paper towel, wipe down the high-touch surfaces of the electronics, and allow to dry.
Please see COVID-19 Cleaning and Disinfecting Guidance (PDF) for detailed information on cleaning protocols. Technology cleaning is detailed on page 5.
