Sufi Thomas to present Division of Biology Seminar

Submitted by Division of Biology

Sufi Thomas, associate professor of otolaryngology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, will present "Love Your Neighbor: Lessons From the Tumor Microenvironment" as part of the Division of Biology Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, in Room 221 of Ackert Hall.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, or HNSCC, is associated with high mortality and morbidity. The tumor microenvironment, or TME, consists of various cell types, including fibroblasts, immune cells and microbes. The molecular interplay between HNSCC and each component in the TME not only facilitates tumor progression but also how it responds to therapy. The Thomas laboratory has uncovered several of these molecular mechanisms and developed targeted approaches to improve therapy response.
