Geology department awards more than $200,000 in scholarships

The department of geology recognized undergraduate and graduate student scholarship recipients for 2023-2024 at its annual awards banquet on Oct. 27. More than $200,000 in scholarships and stipends were allocated, thanks to the generosity of alumni and other donors. 

The following are the undergraduate student scholarship recipients:

• Eresay Alcantar-Velasquez received the John L. and Marilyn A. Johnson Hern Geology Scholarship and the Frank E. Byrne Memorial Scholarship.
• Adam Andersen received the Verna H. and Arthur K. Wilhelm Geology Scholarship and the Henry V. Beck Student Field Geology Fund.
• Adrian Davila received the John L. and Marilyn A. Johnson Hern Geology Scholarship.
• Colby Ifland received the Hydrogeology Scholarship — Bill Johnson '56 and the Neil A. Wendling Memorial Scholarship.
• Eli Kalny received the Claude W. Shenkel First-Year Scholarship.
• Isaac Kubacka received the Ivy Fuller Olds Geology Scholarship, the Topeka Gem and Mineral Society, Inc. Scholarship, and the Elden E. II and Sylvia H. Leasure Student Field Geology Fund.
• Celine Mazzella received the Ronald D. Schulz Memorial Scholarship and the Kenneth Arthur Shewell Memorial Fund.
• Quinton Mindrup received the J.R. Chelikowsky Scholarship, the Elden E. II and Sylvia H. Leasure Student Field Geology Fund, and the Kenneth Arthur Shewell Memorial Fund.
• Jolaine Rolofson received the James L. and Karen A. Clowers Geology Scholarship and the Elden E. II and Sylvia H. Leasure Student Field Geology Fund.
• Ethan Senne received the John L. and Marilyn A. Johnson Hern Geology Scholarship.
• Sami Villasana received the Arthur B. Sperry Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The following are the graduate student scholarship recipients:

• Deborah Agbamu received the Dr. Sambhudas "Sam" Chadhuri — Mary Vanier KSU Family Scholarship and the Geosciences Building Fund.
• Christa Anhold received the Calvin D. and Armistice L. Albert Fund for Excellence in Geology.
• Kehinde Bosikun received the Howard Lee Kendall Memorial Fund, the Geosciences Building Fun, and the Richard and Carolyn Roby Unrestricted Geology Departmental Support Fund.
• Kyle Broley received the John L. Garlough Geology Graduate Teaching Assistantship, the Danheim Nelson Scholarship/Fellowship Fund, and the Kenneth Arthur Shewell Memorial Fund.
• Wyatt Everhart received the Woody and Lynne Leel — Mary Vanier KSU Family Scholarship and the Kenneth Arthur Shewell Memorial Fund.
• Emmanuel Gyasi received the Anita C. Lehner Geology Scholarship, the Geosciences Building Fund, and the Geology Department Fund for Excellence in Geology.
• Muhammed Jallow received the Snyder Geology Support Fund, the Geology Distinguished Professorship, and the Geology Department Fund for Excellence in Geology.
• Matilda King received the Gale R. and Linda M. Yarrow Graduate Student Fellowship, the Geosciences Building Fund, and the Geology Department Fund for Excellence in Geology.
• Isabella Lupini received the Calvin D. and Armistice L. Albert Fund for Excellence in Geology.
• Minindu Mallawa Gedara received the David C. Underwood Geology Scholarship, the Geology Distinguished Professorship, and the American/Canadian Stratigraphic Geology Fund.
• Victor Oladoja received the Snyder Geology Support Fund, the Geosciences Building Fund, and the Richard and Carolyn Unrestricted Geology Department Support Fund.
• Luqman Olawale received the Mudge-Thompson Geology Scholarship.
• Fidelis Onwuagba received the Charles and Helen Steincamp Geology Scholarship and the American/Canadian Stratigraphic Geology Fund.
• Tochukwu Onyebum received the Page C. Twiss Graduate Assistantship and the Ada Swineford Geology Graduate Assistantship.
• Nelsy Osorio received the Mudge-Thompson Geology Scholarship.
• Levi Pruitt received the Mudge-Thompson Geology Scholarship.
• James Rickert received the Samuel and Janet Peppiatt Graduate Student Fellowship in Geology, the Elden E. II and Sylvia H. Leasure Student Field Geology Fund, and the Kenneth Arthur Shewell Memorial Fund.
• Luke Romang received the Petroleum Geology Scholarship and the William J. Barrett Fund for Excellence in Geology.
• Connor Saari received the Snyder Geology Support Fund and Geology Distinguished Professorship.
• Shaluka Senevirathna received the Mudge-Thompson Geology Scholarship and the Richard and Carolyn Roby Unrestricted Geology Departmental Support Fund.
