Free honey-tasting sessions Oct. 29

Submitted by K-State Entomology

Laura Stan, laboratory head for sensory analysis of foods and faculty of food science and technology at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Cluj-Napoca, Romania, is hosting a honey-tasting experience that will evaluate sensory reactions to honey.

Stan is a visiting Fulbright scholar to the K-State Olathe campus performing work in the Sensory and Consumer Research Center this semester.

Four free honey-tasting sessions will take place on Sunday, Oct. 29, at the Agronomy Education Center. Each session will last one hour, and 25 honey tasters are needed per session. Sessions start at 10 a.m., with the last session starting at 2:30 p.m. Sign up at tinyurl.com/kstatehoney.

Honey testers must be 18-70 years old with no diabetes or allergy to honey. Participants should refrain from smoking, eating and drinking — except water — for one hour before the evaluation. Also, they should abstain from using toothpaste or flavored mouthwashes, perfumed toiletries or anything else that may introduce odors to the sensory room. All these things might affect the perception of smell and taste not only of their own but also of their neighbors.

If you have any questions, reach out to Stan at laurastan@usamvcluj.ro.
