K-State Greek life to host 24-hour competition to raise funds for Johnson Cancer Research Center
K-State Greek life is supporting the Johnson Cancer Research Center's Wildcats Give $10 to Cure Cancer, or WG10-2C, initiative.
The initiative encourages all Wildcats to support the center by donating as little as $10 between Sept. 23 and Oct. 28. Donations will support K-State's nonprofit Johnson Cancer Research Center as it provides faculty and students funds for cancer research. The goal is to raise $200,000. Each donation can be made in memory or in honor of family or friends.
K-State sororities and fraternities will compete in a 24-hour competition to raise money for the initiative beginning at noon Wednesday, Sept. 27, through noon Thursday, Sept. 28. The house that raises the most funds for WG10-2C — one fraternity and one sorority — will be presented a perpetual plaque by Jerome Tang, K-State men's basketball coach. Tang will also stay to join the winning houses for dinner.
"One of the pillars of the Greek community at K-State is service and philanthropy," said Kaysi Overdick, Panhellenic Council president. "We strive to raise awareness and funds for various organizations while prioritizing service in the K-State and Manhattan community, and we believe it is important to give back to the community that has done so much for us. We look forward to this opportunity to participate in WG10-2C and make an impact!"
"The Cure Starts with Us" is the center's slogan. If everyone at K-State, in the Manhattan community and across the state of Kansas gives at least $10, the center will reach its goal to support K-State cancer research. Please share the link with friends and family to give $10.
