K-State bands in concert May 5-7

K-State Wind Ensemble 2013

Come join the K-State Bands for three nights of great music.

On Sunday, May 5, the Concert Band and Brass Ensemble will perform their final concert of the season at 3 p.m. in All Faiths Chapel. Traditional band literature, film music, multimedia presentations and exciting contemporary works will be featured. Conducting talents of the band program's graduate students — Andy Feyes, Patrick Sullivan, Adam Ladd and Alex Wimmer — will lead both groups in an exciting afternoon of music. Admission is free.

On Monday, May 6, the Wind Ensemble and director of bands Frank Tracz will a final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. in McCain Auditorium. This concert will feature premiers of several commissioned works for wind ensemble in a varied and interesting program. This top wind group will also feature works from Aaron Copland and Morton Gould. Special guest artist and touring percussionist Jim Rupp will be a featured guest soloist with the wind ensemble on a work titled 'Reactions for Drum Set and Wind Ensemble' composed by Dave Morgan. Additional guests artists include faculty soloist Paul Hunt on trombone and student soloists Jim Johnson and Kelley Tracz. The band will also be guest conducted by Larry Blocher, director of the school of music at Troy University. The Wind Ensemble will be joined in concert by the Rock Creek High School band under the direction of Scott Bradley. Admission is free.

On Tuesday, May 7, the Wind Symphony and University Band and assistant director of bands Donald Linn will present a final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m. in McCain Auditorium. The Wind Symphony will be presenting works from composers Gustav Holst, David Gillingham, and Robert Jager. Special guest artist and touring percussionist Jim Rupp will be a featured guest soloist with the Wind Symphony on a work titled 'Riffs for Drum Set and Wind Ensemble' composed by Jeff Tyzik. The band will also be guest conducted by Larry Blocher, director of the school of music at Troy University. The K-State University Band will perform on the second half of the concert program and will conducted by junior and senior undergraduate music education students.
