Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Russian military history expert David Stone will talk and answer questions about Chechnya at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in 226 Eisenhower Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Stone, the Richard A. and Greta Bauer Pickett chair for exceptional faculty and professor of military history, specializes in Russia and the Soviet Union. He also researches military history and is the director of the Institute for Military History and 20th Century Studies at Kansas State University.

Given current events, Stone will discuss the origins of the Chechen conflict, the Russian wars in Chechnya, ongoing violence in Chechnya and surrounding regions of the Caucasus, and the increasing role of radical Islam in the conflict.
