Barrier-Free Theatre presents ninjas, pirates, dragons, mermaids on April 5, 6

Submitted by Sally Bailey

Don't miss this year's Barrier-Free Theatre show "High Tide Trouble" at 7:30 p.m. April 5-6 at the Manhattan Arts Center, 1520 Poyntz Ave.

"High Tide Trouble" takes place on a lost island, which is inhabited by ninjas, mermaids, monkeys and dragons. When pirates are stranded on the island they must team up with the ninjas to save the island from the dragons that want to ignite the volcano and blow everything up.

"High Tide Trouble" is an original play with music and dance developed through improvisation by 22 actors with disabilities and 15 K-State students. Rehearsals, which met once a week, began in September under the supervision of Sally Bailey, professor of theatre and director of the drama therapy program.

Barrier-Free Theatre is a partnership between K-State's drama therapy program, city of Manhattan parks and recreation department and the Manhattan Arts Center. This is Barrier-Free Theatre's 15th anniversary of bringing together people with and without disabilities to use their imaginations and creativity together.

Tickets are $5 and are on sale at the parks and recreation office, 1101 Fremont in City Park.  Business hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A few tickets may be available at the door.
