These are the KSU Campus Greens' seven primary root values that
guide our actions and express our political philosophy:
Personal and Global Responsibility
The Campus Greens strongly encourage involvement in government
activities. We are in support of the United Nations retaining its
role as the largest driving force for worldwide policy. We support
UN conferences and positions on various topics such as racism, child
welfare, human rights, etc. amidst the cloud of the current administration,
which often withdraws itself from UN progress.
Non-Violence
It is essential that we develop effective alternatives to society's
current patterns of violence. We will work to demilitarize and eliminate
weapons of mass destruction while recognizing the need for self-defense
and the defense of others who are in helpless situations. We advocate
the recognition of the International Court and its decisions.
Decentralization
Centralization of wealth and power contributes to social and
economic injustice and environmental destruction. Therefore, we
support a grassroots restructuring of social, political and economic
institutions towards a more democratic and less bureaucratic system.
Decision-making should, as much as possible, remain at the
individual and local level, while assuring that civil rights are
protected for all citizens.
Social Justice
The Campus Greens support a reconstruction of the tax codes to
eliminate loopholes for large corporations. The Campus Greens support
a national living wage. We advocate the need for such organizations
as Head Start (a type of day care). We believe in equal opportunity
in all regards. We advocate laws that limit U.S. corporations from
using sweatshops and cheap foreign labor.
Respect For Diversity
Campus Greens hold the belief that a diverse community is necessary
for society to function at it full capacity. This concept includes
the ideas that:
A climate of safety
and respect should be established for all communities.
Within state universities,
"Ethnic Study" programs should be placed as a priority.
Federally funded national
coalitions should be created to promote diversity and respect throughout
all levels of government.
All persons should be
valued for their intrinsic worth as a human being, without
discrimination based on social class, race, gender, or sexual
orientation.
Grassroots Democracy
The Green Party supports changes to the electoral system that will
empower
average citizens to have more influence over our government. These
changes include better balloting procedures to make sure every vote
counts, effective campaign finance reform to break big money's
stranglehold on politics, and media reform to open the system to
new
ideas. We also call for serious debate of such innovations as the
use of
Instant Run-Off Voting, Proportional Representation, and changes
to the
Electoral College.
Ecological Wisdom
Sustainability must be a central goal of our society. Alternative
energy solutions (hydrogen fuel cells, wind/solar energy) promote
decentralization of energy distribution as well as ensuring environmental
sustainability. Reducing, reusing and recycling should be emphasized
in order to make positive environmental impacts. Organic farming
also promotes sustainability and encourages independence from fossil
fuels (no petroleum based fertilizers). We must take responsibility
for our environmental impacts on the world and take whatever steps
are necessary to reduce negative impacts.
