Module 3 Is there a human nature?

What do infants teach us about human nature? Is human nature life affirming or life negating? Are we born “good” or “bad”? Is human nature a blank slate or are we the products of our environment? The module videos can also be found in a single list in the VIDEOS tab.

5. Human nature?

The video suggests that temperament and genes are a part of human nature. Our parents and other caregivers then have an effect on what nature provides. But the video also argues that we share a common human nature that transcends temperament and provides the foundation for morality. What do you think? Are we born “bad” or “good” or something in between? What does the textbook imply?
