National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship winner shares tips for success

Submitted by Jim Hohenbary

Every year the National Science Foundation provides approximately 2,000 Graduate Fellowships, each one worth $132,000 over three years of support. Would you like to learn more about the award and what they are looking for in successful applications?

Then please join Derrek Wilson, doctoral student in physics and 2013 National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship winner, and Jim Hohenbary, assistant dean for nationally competitive scholarships, as they share their insights and experience. Students can attend this session at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, or Thursday, Sept. 26, in Room 206 at the K-State Student Union.

The national application deadline for the National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship will be Nov. 4, so interested students are encouraged to attend and kick-start the application process.

Graduating seniors and graduate students in the early stages — typically first or second year — are potentially eligible to apply. However, younger students who might consider applying in the future are welcome also.
