Donate your used books to help literacy initiatives

Submitted by Courtney Cox

Golden Key Honor Society is holding its annual Better World Books Drive. Please place books that you would like to donate in the green bins in Seaton, Willard, Bluemont and Cardwell halls. The collection will end on Friday, May 17.

The books collected are sent to Better World Books Headquarters and are either resold or reused. When the books are resold, the profit made is given to fund literacy initiatives worldwide. The books that are not sold are given to low-income areas around the world for children to practice their reading. Since its start in 2003, Better World Books has raised more than $11 million for its literacy initiatives, diverted more than 50,000 tons of books from landfills, achieved 25,000 tons of carbon offsets through carbon-neutral shipping, and created more than 324 full-time jobs with meaningful benefits. This is also a small fundraiser for Golden Key, which receives about 25 cents for each book that is donated.
