World hunger, food insecurity focus of traveling exhibit

Submitted by Kris Boone

Kansas State University will host the HungerU mobile exhibit highlighting issues associated with world hunger. It will be on the Bosco Plaza from approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12. K-State will be the second of eight stops at major land-grant universities across the Midwest.

“Farmers Feeding the World,” an initiative of the Farm Journal Foundation, is sponsoring the HungerU tour to help educate and spread critical messages about world hunger and the merits of advanced agriculture. The visit to Manhattan is sponsored by the K-State chapter of the agricultural honorary fraternity, Alpha Zeta.

The HungerU exhibit — which is free and open to the public — is a 40-foot trailer carrying thought-provoking messages about complex issues surrounding and leading to hunger, food insecurity and starvation. Students, faculty and community members are invited to visit the exhibit and engage in the discussion of hunger and agriculture.

Visitors will hear how they can be a part of the solution by participating in the SWIPE Out Hunger food packaging event on Oct. 28.
