Couldn't have planned it better: Human Ecology team wins national Financial Planning Championship

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

When it comes to personal financial planning, a team from Kansas State University's College of Human Ecology has proven it's the best in the land.

The team won the National Collegiate Financial Planning competition, Sept. 29-Oct. 2, in San Antonio, Texas, bringing home $10,000 for the personal financial planning program at Kansas State University.

Team members, all seniors in personal financial planning, are Wende Witthuhn, Bazine; Kristen Moore, Junction City; and Matt Gould, Pratt.

Team adviser is Ann Coulson, assistant professor of personal financial planning in the School of Family Studies and Human Services.

The nationwide competition had three phases: a written financial planning case study; case study oral presentation; and the "How Do You Know?" challenge, a game show-style financial planning knowledge contest.

Kansas State University is the only university to send a team to the finals every year since the competition began in 2000. In 2011 the team tied for second place.

Other universities competing in the final round were Colorado State, Shepherd, Texas Tech, Virginia Commonwealth and Virginia Tech.

The National Financial Planning Challenge is sponsored by the Financial Planning Association, Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards and Ameriprise Financial.
