New resources for interdisciplinary research
As scholarly research trends increasingly toward cross-disciplinary work, K-State Libraries is increasing access to interdisciplinary journals, databases and other resources.
Here are two recent full-text and database additions that benefit students and faculty doing interdisciplinary work in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences:
• Based on the English Short Title Catalogue, Eighteenth Century Collections Online includes full-text searchable books, pamphlets, essays, broadsides and more works published in the UK during the 18th century, plus thousands from elsewhere. The more than 33 million pages of text, 182,000 titles and 205,000 volumes in seven major subject areas are primarily in English, but also include other languages. Collections in K-State’s subscription include: history and geography, social sciences and fine arts, science, technology and medicine, literature and language, religion and philosophy, law, and general reference works. All collections provide an instructive and interesting look at primary texts of those disciplines during the 18th century.
• Scopusis the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed research literature. While sharing many of the same features as the more familiar Web of Science such as citation tracking, the two products complement each other. With more than 19,000 titles from more than 5,000 international publishers, Scopus offers researchers a quick, easy and comprehensive resource to support their research needs in the scientific, technical, medical, social sciences fields as well as in the arts and humanities. The resource includes features designed to support and improve researchers' workflow, including:
- linking to full-text articles and other library resources
- author identifier to automatically match an author's published research including the h-index
- citation tracker to find, check and track citations in real-time
- affiliation identifier to automatically identify and match an organization with all its research output
- journal analyzer to provide quick insight into specific journal performance
- document download manager to download and organize multiple full-text articles simultaneously
- data export via bibliographic managers such as RefWorks
- a variety of alerts and feeds to help you stay current in your field
“Offering these two major resources will help the Libraries support so many programs at K-State,” said Marcia Stockham, assistant dean for content management and scholarly communications. “We’re happy to be able to acquire items such as these that will benefit students and faculty from across all the university’s campuses.”
