Nutrition and exercise: Participants needed for exercise and dietary supplementation study

Submitted by Jesse Stein

K-State researchers are currently recruiting physically active men for a study examining the effects of dietary supplements of intermittent running performance. All visits will take place in the Human Physiology Laboratory on the first floor of the Natatorium/Ahearn Complex.

Participants will learn about their body composition, aerobic fitness and how they respond to dietary supplements. Additionally, participants will receive two pretesting meals and $20 for completing the study.

Participants must be 18-25 years old, physically active, normal body weight, and willing to consume beetroot juice, caffeine, or creatine monohydrate; and willing to commit approximately three to four hours of their time over three laboratory visits. The three visits will take between 45-90 minutes.

Exclusion criteria include known cardiovascular, pulmonary, muscular and/or metabolic disease; acute or chronic muscle pain/injury; individuals with a pacemaker or other internal electrical device; taking prescription medication or unable to refrain from over-the-counter medication during the supplementation period; suffer from seizures; consuming less than 50 milligrams of caffeine per day; consuming less than three grams of carbohydrate per kilogram body mass per day; more than 10 percent of unexplained weight-loss in the last six months; following a specialized/restricted diet; food allergies; or reported negative side-effects from consumption of the dietary supplement or pretest breakfast shake.
