Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy to hold economic forum, DebateWatch events

Submitted by David Procter

The Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy and Kansas State University will hold three events in October about the presidential election and related issues. All three events are free  and open to the public. No registration is required.

DebateWatch events will start at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 22 in Room 227 at the K-State Student Union Room. During the events, participants will watch the presidential debate. In small groups, they will then discuss the debate and the issues raised.

DebateWatch is a voter education program run by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which is concerned with bringing citizens together to discuss political issues.

A National Issues Forum will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Ecumenical Campus Ministry Auditorium, 1021 Denison Ave. The topic will be “Economic Security: How Should We Take Charge of Our Future?” Participants will engage in small-group sessions aimed at constructing a mutually acceptable approach to current economic challenges. The economic policy platforms of both presidential candidates will also be addressed.

The National Issues Forum describes itself as a “nonpartisan, nationwide network of locally sponsored public forums for the consideration of public policy issues.”

All three events will be moderated by Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy associates.
