Nadia Oweidat to share 'What Matters to Me and Why'

Submitted by Kerry Priest

Nadia Oweidat, assistant professor of history, will be the featured speaker for the October What Matters to Me and Why lecture series, from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building.

Oweidat was born in Jordan to a deeply traditional family who objected to women's education. In spite of their opposition, as well as entrenched cultural, legal and societal obstacles, she was able to achieve her dream of getting a doctorate from the University of Oxford. In this talk titled, "Jordan to Oxford," Oweidat will share some of her most inspiring life lessons and their relevance to K-State students, faculty and staff.

A free box lunch will be provided starting at 11:45 a.m., and an RSVP is requested by Oct. 16. Visit k-state.edu/leadership/events/whatmatterstomeandwhy.html to read the full event description and sign up. A Zoom link also will be available at this website.

This informal lunchtime series supports K-State's Principles of Community by encouraging reflection on matters of personal values, beliefs, and motivations to better understand the lives and inspirations of those who serve and shape the university. The event is co-sponsored by the Staley School of Leadership Studies, the College of Education and the College of Architecture, Planning & Design.
