Recreational Services' Espinoza honored by National Federation Officials Association

Armando Espinoza, assistant director of competitive sports for Recreational Services, was recently named 2017 Kansas High School Football Official of the Year by the National Federation Officials Association. 

Espinoza, who along with Tyler Burroughs, competitive sports associate, leads the intramural sports program at K-State and trains all of the student officials for each team sport. The Princeton Review named K-State as No. 8 on their list of everyone plays intramural sports in 2017.

In recent years, the K-State intramural program has had 10 different student officials qualify for 20 bids to National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association's Regional Extramural Tournaments in Basketball, with six of those students qualifying and receiving nine bids to the annual NIRSA National Tournament. Two of those students have been named All-American officials.  

In flag football, 18 different students have received 23 bids to NIRSA Regionals, with six students receiving seven different bids to the NIRSA National Tournament.
