K-State Faculty Brass Quintet to premiere composition by Reena Esmail

K-State students and faculty and the Flint Hills Children's Choir will present a free concert of compositions by Indian-American composer/Hindustani singer Reena Esmail at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, at All Faiths Chapel.

The concert will feature the premiere performance of "Khirkiyaan" (Windows): Three Transformations for Brass Quintet," by the K-State Faculty Brass Quintet: Jim Johnson and Craig B. Parker, trumpets; Jacqueline Fassler-Kerstetter, horn; Paul Hunt, trombone; and Steve Maxwell, tuba. "Khirkiyaan" was composed for the K-State Faculty Brass Quintet to be premiered at this concert.

The concert also will include the compositions "Chardonnay" for unaccompanied flute, performed by Karen McLaughlin Large; "Jhula Jhule" for trumpet and piano, performed by Parker, trumpet, and Amanda Arrington, piano; "Goole Doodi (Dark Flower)" performed by Patricia Thompson, mezzo-soprano, Alyssa Morris, English horn, and Arrington; "Perhaps" for cello and film, performed by David Littrell; and "Take What You Need: An Anthem for Skid Row," performed by the Flint Hills Children's Choir, members of K-State choirs and violinist Cora Cooper, and conducted by Janie Brokenicky. 

Esmail's residency at K-State this week has been sponsored by Hale Library's Dow Center for Multicultural and Community Studies; the College of Arts and Sciences Diversity Committee; and the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance — Jeffrey Ward, director.
