Arnold Air Society to stand guard at K-State's Vietnam Memorial for Veterans Day

The Memorial

As Veterans Day approaches, students should stop by one of the many war memorials, including the World War I and II, and the Vietnam and Korean War memorials, that were constructed on campus to honor Kansas State Student who have died serving their country.

Every year, the student organization Arnold Air Society stands guard at the Vietnam Memorial for 24 hours in honor of Veterans Day. The memorial was built after a fundraising campaign in by Arnold Air Society in 1989.

The Vietnam Memorial was created to honor K-State students who fought in the Vietnam War and never came home. In the middle of the memorial, the American flag is flying and beneath it is the POW/MIA flag. On one of the surrounding walls are 42 student's names who died or went missing in the Vietnam War. On the other wall is a moving quote from President Abraham Lincoln. The quote reads "...let us strive on to finish the work that we are in: to bind up the nations wounds: to care for him who shall have been bourne the battle: and for his widow, and his orphan: to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations."
