Submitted by Mary K. Pyle

Join the Office of International Programs in partnership with the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, or APDesign, for the first fall 2017 Vernon Larson Lecture from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Regnier Forum at Seaton Hall.

The following panelists will present "Experience K-State Education Abroad in Orvieto":

  • Lynn Ewanow, associate dean, College of Architecture, Planning & Design and director of international programs.
  • Joe Milostan, director of Education Abroad.
  • Douglas Dow, associate professor of art.
  • Serena Croce, program director of Kansas State University in Italy, Centro Studi.
  • Alix Beezley, K-State student, will offer her student perspective as one who experienced the Kansas State University in Italy summer program.

The panel will focus on the summer 2017 program that launched this past May and June with close to 40 students and share their highlights and perspectives.

"It is always so helpful to return to campus to meet with faculty, staff and administration to share the essence of the Italy experience, answer their questions and concerns as it allows me to put names and faces together," Croce said.

"We were very happy with the summer 2107 program implementation and are excited to share that information and success with interested students and faculty who are looking to experience an Italy education abroad program," Milostan said.

"The journey toward establishing the university's international presence in Italy and Europe began with discussions in early 2005 between Centro Studi in Orvieto and APDesign as the college explored the opportunity to enhance our interdisciplinary study abroad program," Ewanow said. "We quickly learned that Serena embraced our university and college's mission and was excellent at program development as well as building relationships. We are so excited to see this program in Orvieto expanding to include other colleges and departments at K-State."

K-State officially dedicated Kansas State University in Italy in Orvieto this past June to provide greater assistance and elevate the multitude of curriculum possibilities available to students and faculty. Education Abroad staff will be on hand to answer questions. The deadline for students to submit applications for the summer 2018 program is Dec. 1.
