Educational excellence: Two graduate students receive award for teaching

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Kansas State University's Graduate Student Council is recognizing two graduate students for excellence in teaching.

Robert Sparrow, master's degree candidate in hospitality management and dietetics, Indianapolis, and Santosh Ghimire, doctoral candidate in mathematics, Nepal, received the spring 2012 Graduate Student Council Award for Graduate Student Teaching Excellence. The awards were presented at the May 7 council meeting.

The award recognizes graduate students who have excelled in teaching. It serves to promote awareness of the important contributions graduate students make to university scholarship.

Both students received a $500 scholarship. Sparrow was selected for the award in the master's degree level and Ghimire was selected for the award in the doctoral degree level. Each will have their names engraved on a perpetual plaque to be displayed in their respective departments until the next award is given.

"I would like to congratulate Robbie and Santosh for being recognized for their excellence in teaching," said Carol Shanklin, dean of the graduate school. "I look forward to presenting both of them their diplomas on Friday."
