Kansas Board of Regents February meeting agenda items

Submitted by Cindy Bontrager

Dear Campus Community,

The Kansas Board of Regents will meet Feb. 15 at the Curtis State Office Building in Topeka. The board will consider the following agenda items during the meeting.

The Regents will hear a panel discussion on state university admissions. Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students at K-State; Joey Linn, vice president for student affairs at Fort Hays State University; and Matt Melvin, vice provost for enrollment management at the University of Kansas, will discuss factors affecting admissions, barriers to enrollment and reasons students choose to attend a particular institution.

The Regents will receive an update on University Research Grants, which provide targeted state appropriations for projects specific to each university. The grants have provided approximately $5 million annually each to the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas State University Veterinary Medical Center and Wichita State University. Kansas State University's Global Food Solutions Grant appropriation was reduced to $3.9 million in fiscal year 2016. K-State's focus is global food solutions and the Veterinary Medical Center's focus is improved rankings. Legislation requires each university to provide a dollar-for-dollar match and to submit a plan to the Legislature and the governor, relative to those focus areas, as to how these research activities create additional jobs in the state and other economic value.

The Regents will receive an update on the current Legislative session. The governmental relations team will discuss their strategy and the progress they have made during the session.

If you have any questions about these agenda items, please contact me at cab@k-state.edu or 785-532-6226. The meeting will be streamed live online. For live updates on all Kansas Board of Regents meetings follow @ksregents on Twitter. Agendas and complete meeting minutes also are available online.
