Political science professor to deliver next Vernon Larson International Lecture on corruption in India

Krishna Tummala, professor of political science, will present "Corruption in India" on Tuesday, April 10, as part of the Vernon Larson International Luncheon Lecture Series. The lecture starts at 12:15 p.m. in the ballroom at the Holiday Inn at the Campus.
Tummala obtained two degrees in the United States: a master of public administration from the State University of New York at Albany and a doctorate from the University of Missouri Columbia. He joined the K-State faculty in 1988.
Tummala has published more than 45 articles and numerous books in areas of public personnel management in both India and the United States, on public budgeting and on comparative administrative systems. He was a senior research fellow of the Indian Council of Social Science Research and also a senior Fulbright fellow, which permitted him to do research in India for one of his books.
He has received numerous national and international awards for his work. Tummala has served the national American Society for Public Administration in several leadership positions. He served a three-year term as a member of the executive council of the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. He served as president of Pi Alpha Alpha, the national honor society for public administrators, through 2007.
His current interest is in corruption in India. Although India did not invent corruption, it no doubt excels in it, more so since the new economic liberalization beginning in 1990. This brazen corruption led to the popular movement, led by Anna Hazare, which shows the importance of civil society's contributions to the Lokpal Bill.
Lunch is optional and begins at 11:45 a.m. The lunch buffet costs $15 and reservations are required. The lecture series is sponsored by the Friends of International Programs and the office of international programs.

Vernon C. Larson, then director of the international agricultural programs, created the lecture series in 1979. The series is the longest-running at K-State. With six presentations per year, presented during the fall and spring semester, the series offers an opportunity for the K-State community to hear presentations from faculty and individuals who recently participated in an extensive overseas activity or who are involved in major international activities.
