Spring Furniture Amnesty Day to take place Friday, May 6

Submitted by Ryan Haxton

HandsOn Kansas State, Manhattan Good Neighbors and the city of Manhattan are teaming up for a spring Furniture Amnesty Day.

Furniture Amnesty Day is a communitywide event held during the summer but this year a second event is being added and will take place Friday, May 6, at the Baker Field Parking Lot in City Park. Drop off your furniture from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Public pick up will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be no house pickups, and only drop offs for this event.

Furniture Amnesty Day's purpose is to reduce the amount of unwanted furniture by fostering an opportunity for neighbors to help neighbors. Instead of disposing unwanted furniture improperly, citizens can recycle and reuse furniture to Manhattan residents and K-State students in need through this event.

As this event grows, the need for more volunteers grows as well. Volunteers can sign up through the HandsOn Kansas State online sign up form. Fill in the volunteer information and select Furniture Amnesty Day. For more information email Cari Olberding at mgn@k-state.edu.
