Employers volunteer time to help students improve networking skills

Submitted by Tara Pfaff

“Don’t forget to network!” is common advice many job seekers hear, but many students do not know how to do it successfully.

Several notable employers will volunteer their time Tuesday, March 13, at the second annual Networking Night event hosted by career and employment services. It will begin at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Center Ballroom.

This high-energy event will teach students how to improve their networking skills.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to learn networking skills with actual employers,” said Joy Hill, assistant director at career and employment services.

Networking Night will provide students with a low-pressure way to practice their networking skills while interacting with employers from Cargill, Cerner, Farmer’s Insurance, Garmin, Grant Thornton, GTM, Hy-Vee, JC Penney, Koch Industries, ONEOK, Seaboard Foods and State Street.

“Students should definitely take advantage of opportunities like this to network with employers when they are on campus,” Hill said.

Students of all majors are encouraged to attend. The event is free and food will be provided.  Business professional attire is required. Attendance is on a first come, first served basis. Students interested in attending must RSVP online by March 9 via the CES webpage.
