A team of engineering students from Kansas State University experienced three days of technical training and presentations by the natural gas transmission industry's leading subject matter experts, while assisting in overall operations of the 2015 Gas Machinery Conference, Oct. 4–7, in Austin, Texas.

With more than 1,200 attendees, the conference is the industry's premier conference focusing on the operation, maintenance, and testing of gas compression machinery.

All of the student participants are employed as lab technicians at the National Gas Machinery Laboratory, an institute of the College of Engineering. The lab is home to the turbocharger test and research facility, and is recognized for substantial research involving use of natural gas in the heating and cooling of built environment and industrial processes.

Students attending the conference were Jonathan Kuttes, Nathan Petrie and Justin Allen, seniors; Ben Commerford, Michael Reimer and Chris Sharlow, juniors; and Jaren Nittler, freshman.

"Assisting to ensure a well-run conference is hard work, but the Gas Machinery Conference provides our students an opportunity to get a picture of the current issues affecting the industry," said Byron Jones, director of the Natural Gas Machinery Laboratory. "This exposure helps them put their work at the lab, as well as that in the classroom, into perspective."
