Majors, Minors and More to assist in crafting your college career plan

Submitted by Jared

As hard as it to believe, mid-October is here. Leaves are changing colors, Bill Snyder Family Stadium is rocking every Saturday, fall break is just around the corner, and pre-enrollment has begun.

For some, pre-enrollment brings excitement as a new semester is just around the corner. For others, the reality of choosing another slate of courses induces a bit of anxiety. As a way to ease those jitters, Majors, Minors and More is conveniently timed just before spring enrollment begins.

Several students have asked how to know if they should attend Majors, Minors and More and below are our most common reasons why:

• If you want to make yourself more marketable to employers:
When it comes to hiring, employers are looking for much more than just what you're majoring in. Many students find that adding a minor or certificate program is a great way to not only make themselves more marketable to employers, but also a way to optimize the education experience while at K-State.

• If you are currently enrolled in open option:
Even though you can 'technically' stay in open option until you've completed 60 hours, wouldn't it be great to find your major sooner than that?

• If you do not enjoy your current major:
Going to class can be a struggle if you haven't found much success in the classes for your major. This may be an indication that major is not a great fit, so why not explore some other options and accomplish your academic goals?

• If you want a chance to win door prizes:

  •  Beats Solo 2 headphones
  •  Free tasting tour for you and five friends at Noodles & Company
  • $75 catering package from Which Wich

These are just a few of the door prizes that we'll give away to students who attend. There are also gift cards and free treats from local restaurants and retailers, but you must attend to sign up!

• If you are interested in learning more about the 250+ programs at K-State, from avionics to nuclear engineering, elementary education to interior architecture, entrepreneurship to family studies and human services, food science to molecular biophysics and beyond, Majors, Minors and More is a great place to explore K-State and all you can experience while you're a Wildcat!

The event takes place on from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14th in the K-State Student Union Ballroom and casual dress is encouraged. In order to ensure timely registration, please bring your student ID.

Majors, Minors and More is sponsored by the Academic and Career Information Center, the Arts and Sciences Open Option Program, Housing and Dining Services, and the academic colleges of Kansas State University.
