Economics Club to host Fannie Mae senior economist for presentation

Submitted by Daniel Kuester

A former Presidential Teaching Award winner at Kansas State University will be returning to campus to present to students this week.

Hamilton Fout will be returning to campus to present a talk on "Using Economic Models to Better Understand Housing and Credit Markets." Fout is currently a senior economist in the Credit Risk Analytics and Monitoring Division of the Federal National Mortgage Association, better known as Fannie Mae. This presentation is free and and open to the K-State community and it will follow a regularly scheduled Economics Club Meeting. The presentation will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in 348 Waters Hall.

"I am very pleased that we have been able to bring Ham back to campus," said Dan Kuester, faculty adviser to the Economics Club. "He spoke to the club in 2008 and it was one of the highlights of our academic year. Ham has a tremendous ability to make economics easy to relate to for a general audience and the work he is currently doing on housing and risk
is certainly very topical.

"When we had our meeting with our officers to figure out who we could bring into speak to the club this year, Ham was our first choice." Kuester said. "I appreciate the hard work that our officers did and the help of Student Senate to make this possible. Ham's presentation will be relevant and interesting to anyone concerned about the problems we still face in the housing market."
