Two from K-State receive Love of Learning awards from Phi Kappa Phi

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

A Kansas State University faculty member and a doctoral student are each receiving $500 Love of Learning awards from Phi Kappa Phi honor society.

David Vail, assistant professor and public services archivist at K-State Libraries, and Dilooshi Weerasooriya, graduate research assistant in plant and breeding genetics, are among the 147 recipients of the award this year.

The Phi Kappa Phi Love of Learning Award program helps fund graduate or professional studies, doctoral dissertations, continuing education, career development and travel related to teaching and students for active members of the society, which is the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Vail, who was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2004 at Southern Oregon University, plans to use his award to examine the archival collections, manuscripts and collected papers at Oregon State University as part of a broad research project that also will include other university libraries, special collections and scholarly repositories.

Weerasooriya was initiated into Phi Kappa Phi in 2013 at K-State. She intends to use the award for research purposes.
